Flinders Ranges & Outback Bed and Breakfast
The Flinders mountain ranges and the adjoining areas truly are lost in time. With the feeling of the yester years still afresh, this place transports you to a different period altogether. When in the area, you can stay in one of the many self-sufficient and eco-friendly bed and breakfasts in the city of Hawker or camp in the wilderness.
The natural Amphitheatre of Wilpena is a favorite stop for tourists. Walk the rugged mountain path or take a flight to the peak, it looks splendid either way. Other great treks are Parachilna gorge trail, Oodnadatta trail and the Strzelecki track.
The ranges have a wide variety of endemic animals and plants, with the gnarled gum tree worth a special mention. The Bundaleer Forest Reserve and the Coongie Lakes National Park are two of the top reserves in the area with red and gray kangaroos, foxes and many other rare marsupials.
A great way to end the day is on a hot air balloon in the Rawnsley Park with the sun setting in the background and a glass of great Australian wine.
